February 2008 News 18/2/08 Sneddon all signed up to try Polish experience Follow the news link to read the Edinburgh Evening News article on Derek Signing for Miskolc 16/2/08 DEREK IN FOR HUNGARIANS Follow the news link to catch Mike Hunters report on the Monarchs web site about me signing for Miskolc 14/2/08 Interview from Poland! I was approached by Przemek Szymkowiak, a Polish journalist, from speedway magazine "Tygodnik Zuzlowy" - it`s like a polish Speedway Star asking for an interview? I have added the 'email interview' below: 1. What was the reason to sign contract with Speedway Miskolc for the Second Division in Poland? The reason to sign with Speedway Miskolc was to further my speedway experience and this was a great opportunity for me to ride abroad. 2. What does representing hungarian club from Miskolc mean to you? Once again it's a fantastic opportunity for me and it's a real honour for me to ride for Miskolc. 3. How do motorbikes you use influence your results and what engines you will use next season in Poland? You have to be on the best equipment you can have to ride competitively, and in Britain I currently use GM short-stroke engines in Jawa chassis. I'm currently in discussion with the club as to what equipment will be best suited for me to use. 4. What is your first goal for the next season in Poland and UK? In Poland, it's going to be completely new to me so first thing will be to find my feet and score as many points as I can. As for UK, my main focus this year is to make heat leader position and continue my captaincy with Edinburgh, which I really enjoy. 5. What do you think about polish tracks? Do you know some tracks in Poland? All the tracks are going to be new to me, but I have spoken to friends and riders who have ridden there to see what their views are. I have spoken to Rory Schlein who rode at Miskolc last season for his grand prix challenge quarter final for his opinion on the track. 6. What was the reason, that you didn`t sign contract with polish club? In all honesty Miskolc was the first club to approach me and I'm more than happy to take up the offer given to me. 7. What factors impede achieving good results in speedway? Poor equipment, bad maintenance, poor track preparation and poor organisation can impede good results, but I am sure I will be on top of things and won't let these things get in the way of my racing. 8. What do you know about Poland and Hungary? These are places that I have never been but I look forward to learning more about both Poland and Hungary and sampling both cultures. 9. How important is contact with your fans and speedway lovers in UK? This thing is very much important to me. I know I wouldn't be where I am today in speedway if it wasn't for my friends, family, fans and sponsors, and I always try my very best to keep in touch with all and meet as many as I can after the meetings. I have a good relationship with the fans at Edinburgh and hope to have the same at Miskolc. 10. What things you like and don't you like in speedway and why? The things that I like best in speedway are winning races and winning trophies for my club. I try not to get involved in the politics side of it and just go out and do my best to win races. If I really have to think hard about something I don't like about speedway is the cost of diesel and sometimes the traveling can be a bit tiring. 14/2/08 Speedway Miskolc As most of you will be aware from press reports I have been signed by Speedway Miskolc, a Hungarian team riding in the second division in Poland. This is a new and exciting opportunity for me to ride abroad. I have still some paperwork to sort out which I hope will be completed within the next couple of weeks. When all of this is done I will let you know through the web site and add the fixture list. Hopefully you will follow my season in Poland! Hopefully this new venture will be a successful for me and Speedway Miskolc. |
