October 2007 News 29/10/07 An Article published recently in the Falkirk Herald: Successful Season for Derek Falkirk Speedway ace Derek Sneddon claims this season has been a success for him, despite his team the Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs having a less than impressive campaign. Sneddon told Edinburgh Monarchs Marketing Manager John McGillivray all about his season. He said 'Looking at the season it's been a good one for me. My aim at the start was to get myself out of the reserve place in the team and get myself into the main body, which I did at the end of April and then the job was to stay there, which I did' He continued 'There was obvious problems with the team, we were'nt getting the results we had hoped for and it was clear we needed to make changes. We brought in George Stancl, Kaj Laukkanan and Kalle Katajisto, and although many said it actually weakened the team, we felt a lot better as a team, and as the season was coming to a close we seemed to click'. The biggest point of Sneddon's season came when he was asked to be captain of the side. 'I had heard about the team changes and when promotor John Campbell phoned me I actually thought I had been dropped but to be asked to be captain was a real honour. I feel it really turned my season around. I asked former Scotland rider Kenny McKinna to assist me in the pits and he really helped my home form. I'm riding the Armadale track better than ever and when your home form is good it really helps your confidence. By the end of the season I was chasing my first maximum, which just kept eluding me, but I'd rather be chasing a maximum than just scoring a few points'. Now that the season's over Sneddon's already looking to next year. 'I'll be spending the winter getting fit for next season, we'll be upgrading my equipment too and hopefully push on from the good form I've had this season. I'll be looking to increase my sponsors too, though I have to say a massive thank you to all my sponsors, including Buildbase, LaFarge, Real Radio, Jim Allan Motorcycles, Pennie and my Aunty Helen. Without these people I'd really struggle to get the equipment I need'. As for who he'll be riding for next season, Sneddon hopes to be back at Armadale once again, and would love to continue as captain. He said 'I've really enjoyed my time as captain and I'm happy riding for the Monarchs, so hopefully I'll be back there next season'. |
